Work on $13 mil. LPG storage tank begins at Dung Quat

PetroVietnam Gas started building Monday a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) storage tank and truck loading station at the Dung Quat Refinery at a cost of VND226 billion (US$13 million), Tuoi Tre reported.

The gas unit of Vietnam Oil & Gas Group, or PetroVietnam, expects the 2,000-ton LPG storage facility and truck loading station to become operational by early next year, the newspaper reported.

The tank will help distribute LPG from the country’s first refinery, based in the central province of Quang Ngai, to the central and Central Highlands regions.

LPG – or cooking gas – is one of the main products of the Dung Quat Oil Refinery, which opened on February 22, marking a milestone for Vietnam’s energy sector.

Last year, demand for LPG was around 950,000 tons, only 30 percent of which was met by local producers.
